• 🏳️Bouvet Island does not have a unique official flag of its own. As a Norwegian dependent territory, the national flag of Norway is used officially for the island. The Nordic cross represents the historical, cultural and Christian heritage of Norway and the Scandinavian region. The red, white and blue colors were inspired by the flags of democratic nations (such as France, the UK and the USA), symbolizing freedom, independence and equality.
• 🏝️The most isolated island on Earth — Bouvet holds the title of the most remote island in the world. The nearest landmass is the uninhabited Queen Maud Land in Antarctica, about 1,700 km (1,050 miles) away, while the nearest inhabited place (Tristan da Cunha) is over 2,200 km away.
• 🧊Encased in ice — about 93% of the island is covered by glaciers. Surrounded by sheer ice cliffs and steep slopes, there are no natural harbors, making landing extremely difficult and usually possible only via helicopter.
• 🌐Its own country-code domain (.bv) — despite having no human population, Bouvet Island was assigned its own Internet top-level domain, .bv. However, Norwegian authorities keep it restricted, and no public registrations are allowed.
